Individual and Couples Therapy in Barcelona, Spain or virtually from anywhere in the world.
Hi! My name is Orly Zamir and I am an English and Hebrew-speaking mental health therapist in Barcelona, helping adults of all ages and backgrounds navigate the complexities of life.
My journey as a therapist has taken me across the globe, allowing me to gather diverse perspectives and cultural insights that deeply inform and shape my practice. Having lived and worked in New York, Tel Aviv, San Francisco, and now Barcelona, I bring a rich tapestry of experiences into my work. Spending significant parts of my life in various parts of the world has enriched my understanding of the human experience, allowed for me to learn from diverse perspectives, and gain cultural insights that profoundly influence my work.
My approach is rooted in the belief that healing, transformation, and growth can only occur in a space that allows for authentic connection and understanding. Whether you're facing challenges in your relationships, struggling with past trauma, or dealing with anxiety or depression, I am here to provide a safe and supportive space for you to explore your true self without judgement, and overcome these obstacles.
I work with adults through individual and couples therapy, and utilize tools and techniques from various schools of psychology to best tailor each session to your unique needs. My goal is to help you better understand yourself, build resilience, develop healthier relationships, and create meaningful change in order to live a more fulfilling and enriched life. I look forward to walking alongside you on your journey to mental and emotional well-being.
My Approach
In my practice, I utilize a humanistic and psychodynamic approach to help adults of all ages, genders, and backgrounds gain deeper insights into their emotional and psychological landscapes. This approach is rooted in the understanding that our past experiences significantly influence our present behaviors and relationships. By exploring unconscious processes and unresolved conflicts, we work together to uncover the underlying sources of current challenges. This method fosters self-awareness and facilitates meaningful change by addressing core issues rather than just symptoms. Through this introspective journey, clients can develop a deeper understanding of themselves, leading to lasting transformation and improved emotional well-being.
I employ a combination of therapeutic orientations and approaches including Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psycotherapy (AEDP), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Gestalt Therapy techniques. These methodologies are tailored to the unique needs of each individual or couple, providing a comprehensive and personalized approach to therapy, to help you best address and overcome the roadblocks you may be facing.
Past Experience & Education
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Reichman University in Israel, where alongside my studies, I interned at a private rehabilitation facility assisting adults recovering from addiction, and conducted and published research on the impact of meditation on self-criticism. I then earned a Master of Arts in Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness from New York University, and provided individual and group therapy for survivors of abuse, sexual assault, domestic violence, and rape at The Crime Victim’s Treatment Center (Mount Sinai Hospital) in New York City. After four years in New York, I continued my work in the non-profit sector, dedicating five years to working with low-income youth and families in Berkeley, California. Since 2022, I have been a full-time group and private practice psychotherapist in Barcelona. My distinct experience across three major cities and with a diverse range of clients over the past decade allows me to offer a comprehensive and personalized approach tailored to each individual’s unique needs.
Commitment to Growth & Learning
I strive to constantly be learning and growing, both personally and professionally in various ways. I consult with a peer supervision group on a biweekly basis, to look at challenges from new angles, hear other professionals’ perspectives, gain fresh insights, and find ways to improve as a therapist. I also continue to take courses, seminars and workshops to stay current in my field. Most recently, I have completed the Clinical Foundations in Gottman Method Couples Therapy Course with the world renowned Drs. John and Julie Gottman, How to Work with Shame through NICABM, and studied Microdosing for Mental Health with Retreat. I personally believe that this profession requires a continuous commitment to a humbling process of learning and self-improvement, embracing the ever-evolving nature of therapeutic practice.
Words From Clients
“I had a really great experience with Orly. She supported me through some really tough stuff. I was dealing with some depression and memories of trauma from my childhood that were coming up for me as an adult, as well as challenges with dating and other relationships. I learned how much these were all interconnected and Orly really helped me grow and significantly improve my overall mental health over the past year. I always felt really comfortable in our sessions, and not judged, which was important for me. I was originally a little skeptical to give therapy a try, but I have to say this past year with Orly has definitely helped me feel so much better in just about every area of my life."
“Orly is an exceptionally skilled, kind, and compassionate therapist. Working with her has given me a valuable set of tools to manage daily life as well as a profound understanding of myself. “I worked with Orly for about a year and had an incredible experience. I felt like she helped me open up and connect with myself and others in ways that I hadn’t even anticipated. She provided such care and warmth as well as more concrete and helpful explanations of various psychological terms and tools in our sessions that I found really helpful. She was always very engaged, punctual, professional, and really a pleasure to work with.”
